Formula Builder

To view the Formula Builder page, select Administration > Architect > Model Management > Formula Builder.

The Formula Builder page enables you to create schedule line formulas. Formulas consist of a number of possible elements:

  • Algebraic formulas
  • Conditional formulas
  • Member references

You can define formulas for schedule lines. These formulas are used to calculate database values instead of having users specify the data. Formulas can consist of simple algebraic expressions or more complex conditional expressions.

Limitations

A formula cannot exceed 400,000 characters.

Best practices

  • Minimize the number of off-sheet references in schedule formulas. Off-sheet references are references to lines on other schedules and cross-dimensional references ("of" clauses). Prior period references such as "of [Period]:[-1]" are not considered off-sheet references.
  • Use the Beginning Balance functionality instead of relative period references wherever possible. Beginning balance and Ending balance lines are the standard way to pull Balance Sheet balances from one period to the next. Use relative period references only when the Beginning balance functionality will not suffice.

Detail information

The Formula Builder page does not require a view. This page is included in the Administration category in the CPM navigation.
