New hierarchy imports into shell databases

This section contains information about managing structure imports into hierarchical dimensions when importing into a shell database.

When a hierarchical dimension is composed of only one hierarchy, the minimum structure data and mapping that the Import Wizard can use to successfully import is the member name and parent name. When there are multiple hierarchies in a dimension, additional information is needed to load the structure into the correct hierarchy. There are two primary ways to add the necessary information:

A default value for hierarchy name can be used during the mapping process (if all the members being mapped belong to the same hierarchy).

One of two hierarchical dimension properties can be used within the structure data to identify each member:

  • Group name
  • Hierarchy name
