Understanding the results

Updates to existing members result in these changes:

  • Changes are made to the dimension member properties that reflect the property values within the imported structure data. For example, SchedLine B's account type was originally PR but changes to BA after the import is complete.
  • Identical property values do not reflect changes after a structure file import. For example, the natural sign for SchedLine B is the same before and after the import because that value in the structure file was the same value.
  • Existing member order is not affected by updates. Only property values are affected. For example, the members in the structure data (SchedLines B and D) were in a different order than their counterparts in the dimension. Their import had no effect on the resulting member order in the dimension.

The fact that existing member order is not affected by imported changes is significant when working with the Schedule dimension. The Schedule dimension relies on member order for display purposes. While uncommon, you might need to use the Import process to reorder members within the Schedule dimension.

To learn how to do this, see Changing the Schedule dimension member order.
