Flat dimensions

This diagram shows the structure data for the flat dimension. The structure data can contain any combination of properties and attributes for each member. The bare minimum, however, is that data for required properties is included in the structure data. Although this dimension consists of ID, name, and description, name is the only property required by the Import Wizard for flat dimensions.

It would be much simpler to specify this information with Architect because there is little to add. However, you must use the Import Wizard if there are any empty dimensions in the database.

This diagram shows the comparison between minimum structure content for Year and the content imported into the Year database dimension if the minimum content is used. The Import Wizard adds default values for properties that are required by the CPM database but not the wizard and they are missing from the structure data.

If the minimum structure data for Year is:

  • Name
  • 2005
  • 2006
  • 2007
  • 2008
  • 2009
  • 2010

The Import Wizard adds default values for the required properties:

  • Id,Name,Description
  • 1,2005,2005
  • 2,2006,2006
  • 3,2007,2007
  • 4,2008,2008
  • 5,2009,2009
  • 6,2010,2010
