Attribute definition
The Attribute Definition page enables you to define which attributes to use in the employee header record and the position assignment record. The attributes are displayed as a header column in the reports and are used to define the fields for the data entry pages.
There are two types of attributes:
- Position
- Employee
Position attributes contain information that is specific to the position and generally does not change. These attributes are required:
- Version
- Primary dimension member, typically this is the Unit dimension
- Position name
- Headcount
- Pay type
- Spread method
- Annual hours
- Pay periods
- Start date
- Base rate
- Allocation
If Step and Grade is enabled, these attributes are also required:
- Step & Grade Schedule
- Grade
- Step
Employee header record attributes contain information that is specific to the employee and generally does not change with position changes.
Workforce Budgeting provides a fixed set of attributes that can be customized to your requirements. You cannot create attributes. Only activate the attributes that fit your application.

Open the details page for the attribute values. This button is only enabled for active custom string attributes. |
ID | Displays the attribute ID. You cannot edit the ID. |
Category | Displays the attribute category, either Employee or Position. You cannot edit the category. |
Name | Attribute name. The name can be changed and must be unique. The name is displayed to the budgeter. |
Description | Attribute description. The description can be changed. This information is used as a tool tip in the data entry pages. |
Type | Displays the attribute type. You cannot change the type. |
Display Order | Specify the order in which the columns are displayed to the budgeter. If you specify an existing order number, all existing order numbers equal to or greater than that number are incremented by one. Optional fields are set as inactive by specifying zero (0) as the display order. Inactive fields are not displayed to budgeters. |
Entry Required | Select this check box if a value must be specified by the budgeters. |
Allow Budgeter Override | Select this check box allow the budgeter to change the default attribute value specified for the Position Definition. If this check box is not selected, the Position Assignment defaults to the value specified by the Position Definition and cannot be changed by the Budgeter. This check box is enabled for custom position attributes. |
