Inserting a value
The Insert Value tab enables you to insert one value at a time. It can be used with or without the Insert Member task.
- Click the Insert Value tab.
- Select any dataset from the menu.
- Click on the cell in the worksheet where you want the value to appear, and then click on the text box. The address of the selected cell displays in the text box.
-
One default member name is displayed in brackets for each dimension. If the dataset
is defined with only one member for a dimension, the text box is gray and member
selection is not available.
- If the dataset is defined with
multiple members for a dimension, the text box is white, and an ellipsis icon
is displayed. To select or change a member for these dimensions, you can use
one or a combination of the following three methods:
- Click Browse to show a modified Member Selection dialog box that enables you to select only one member.
- Specify the exact member name
or a cell reference directly into the text box, an invalid name returns
no data. Member names should be enclosed by brackets. Do not enclose cell
references in brackets.
When specifying a member name that looks like a cell reference, for example a unit member is named C12, include brackets around the member name. This enables the formula to evaluate the member name correctly. If the member name on the tab is not enclosed by brackets, the member name is evaluated as a cell reference, producing an incorrect value (or no data is displayed).
- Click in the member text box to activate the cell indicator, the text will turn red, and then select a cell on the grid that contains the member. The cell reference is displayed in the text box, highlighted in blue.
- If the dataset is defined with
multiple members for a dimension, the text box is white, and an ellipsis icon
is displayed. To select or change a member for these dimensions, you can use
one or a combination of the following three methods:
- Click Insert to insert the value into the cell at the displayed address.
- To add another value, repeat these instructions or use the shortcut method. See "Adding Values Using MPCData Formulas" for populating the remainder of the data area.
