Adding an XMLA data source
- Start the Datasource Wizard. For OLAP Server models, ensure that OLAP Server is running.
- Click Add. The Datasource Properties dialog box opens.
-
Specify this information:
- Datasource Name
- Specify the data source name.
- Datasource ID
- Shows the unique data source ID. In general, do not modify this ID. However, if you delete a data source or change servers, any existing workbooks using the deleted data source or previous server still require the original ID. In this event, create a new data source and edit the ID to match the original ID.
- Model Type
- Select BPA, Strategy Management, or Generic/Other.
- Datasource Type
- Select XMLA.
-
Optionally, you can select the Shared
check box. This option is selected by default and makes the data source available to
other users from the template. If you want to create a private data source, clear the
check box.
XMLA data sources include the Extra Parameters default setting to prevent extraneous ghost members in the Member Selection dialog box in the cell-based workbook:
- MDX Compatibility=2
-
You can append additional parameters to the ADOMD connection
string. If more than one parameter exists, separate the parameters with a
semicolon.
- In addition, you can set OLAP Server data sources to use dimension names instead of descriptions (default) when inserting data in the cell-based workbook. To use dimension names, specify DimCaptions=Names in the text box.
- You cannot set members to show names versus descriptions. The cell-based workbook always shows whatever the OLAP Server and Analysis Services data sources return as the caption.
- Optionally, you can add a data source description.
- Click Next.
-
Specify the data source properties.
- Database Server
- Specify the server computer name.
- Catalog
- Specify the database name.
- Cube
- Specify the data cube name. This can be the CPM data cube, the Analysis Services cube, or the name of the Strategy Management database.
- Click Finish.
