Rules of operation for variance data

  • The value associated with the primary data is always displayed at the top right of a map node.
  • The value associated with the variance data is always displayed at the bottom right of a map node.
  • The variance represents the percent increase or decrease in the primary data value to achieve the variance data value. In the example shown, the variance percent is +11.9%, which means the primary data value of 226,876 (for Quarter 3 2008) was increased by 11.9% to achieve the variance data value of 253,926 (for Quarter 3 2009).
