Analyzing formulas

You can analyze the components of any Excel formula that was either added directly to the worksheet or created while inserting a block of data.

The Analyze command maps the direct and indirect components of a selected formula. You can use this command as a quick reference to visualize which cells can be altered to affect the value of the selected formula. You can also analyze formulas to determine if they are valid for generating a formula map.

To display the formula components:

  1. Click any cell that contains an Excel formula.
  2. Click Analyze in the CPM Analysis menu. A map is displayed on the grid, linking the formula components to the formula. A dot represents the direct formula components, while the highlighted cells represent the leaf components (direct or indirect).
