Adding a dataset

  1. Click the plus sign on the Dataset tab. You may be prompted to sign in.
  2. Add a descriptive name for your dataset, such as Balance Sheet or Expenses. Names for datasets are case insensitive.
  3. Select an existing data source. You can only submit data to the database, generate a formula map, and top down spread when you use a writable data source.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Define the dataset by selecting members for each dimension. You must select members for all dimensions before navigating from the Dataset tab.
    • If the default dimensions that is displayed for the across, down, and off-grid members in the dataset are not what you want for your plan, you can easily exchange or nest dimensions.
    • The dimension configuration for a dataset is relevant only to the Insert Block tab. If you do not plan to insert a block of data, it not required to exchange or nest dimensions.
    • To exchange dimensions, highlight a dimension from the Across, Down, or Page By section and drag the dimension over any dimension from another section to exchange the two dimensions.
    • To nest dimensions, only nest dimensions when you want to view data for all combinations of members of the nested dimension. For example, nesting the RateSet dimension (Actual and Budget members) with the Rate dimension (Actual Rate and Budget Rate) would produce meaningless data when combining Actual with the Budget Rate (or Budget with the Actual Rate). To nest dimension, highlight a dimension from the Across, Down, or Page By section and drag the dimension over the Across or Down dimension label to nest a dimension.
    • To change dimension members, single-click the underlined members displayed for a particular dimension. For new datasets, this member is called Select Member to indicate there are no members selected yet. Select members for each dimension from the Member Selection dialog box. For detailed instructions, see "To Select Dimension Members."
  6. Save the workbook.
