Starting a chart with data
We recommend that you start by adding a measure.

Locate your columns by browsing the Designer Subject Area or using Search.
If you created your chart with the Add Chart option, you can also see your other Subject Areas. Any columns that are added to the chart must also be added to the Designer report. Columns that are added using Designer-Charts are added to the Undisplayed Content band on the Designer report.
- Select a column by clicking the name of the column or drag and drop it onto the Canvas.

The column is added to the appropriate bucket in the Chart Builder and a visualization
is built on the Canvas. By default, a column chart is created as indicated by the column
icon on the tab next to the measure.
To see important details about the column, hover over the column in the Chart Builder.

Select the column in Chart Builder to change the column properties. This list shows the
options that can be changed for Measure columns:
Column Description Aggregation Count distinct, count, average, maximum, minimum, or sum. Data Type By Order_Date, Ship_Date, or other date types that exist in the underlying data model. Time Series Type Current, trailing 12 months (TTM), trailing 3 months, month ago (MAGO), quarter ago (QAGO), year ago (YAGO), quarter to-date (QTD), year to-date (YTD). If you change the time series type, you must also add a Time attribute, such as Time.Month, Time.Quarter, Time.Year, to the report.
Chart Types Shows the current chart type and you can change to another type of chart. Data Formatting Shows the data formatting options that are available in Visualizer Charts and Tabular Reports. Calculations This option is available after you add an attribute and measure. - To change the label of a column, double-click the Column Name to open the Edit window.
- After adding your first measure, add an attribute. The attribute is added to the Category section and Designer-Charts plots a bar chart.
- Add other attributes and measures.
- You can change the style of the chart by changing the chart type. Click the Change Visualization icon to open Guided Mode. It shows the types of available charts. The currently selected chart types are indicated in blue.
