Configuring Birst to use a data file for dynamic group assignment

  1. Upload the file to Birst. See Uploading data source files in the Infor Birst Modeler User Guide.
  2. Create a new hierarchy with a level that has Group and User as the level key. See Hierarchies in the Infor Birst Modeler User Guide.
  3. Make this level the grain of the uploaded data source. The grain of a data source defines precisely what a data record in the source represents.
  4. Under Modeler Relate > Source Properties > Sources > Dynamic Group Assignments, target the columns of this data source to the created hierarchy. To ensure that only the new uploaded data is reflected, specify this information:
    Source Conversion
Select a dynamic group of Convert to Discovery Source.
    Snapshot and Transaction Policy
    Select Full Refresh.
  5. Define column properties of the two uploaded columns. See Editing column properties in the Infor Birst Modeler User Guide.
  6. Process the data.
Tip: Delete the last load and reprocess if new data is not available or ready to process.
  7. View and verify the processed data by selecting the dynamic group table. See View Processed Data.
  8. Select Admin > Space Management > Space Groups.
  9. Click Dynamic Group Assignment next to the + button to open the Dynamic Group Assignment window.
  10. Specify this information:
    Hierarchy
Select the hierarchy that contains the mapping in the Hierarchy field.
    Username Column
Select which column in the table contains the user IDs.
    Groupname Column
Select which column contains the group name.
Note: At least one space group must be available in order to perform a dynamic group assignment.
Note: A hierarchy must be selected for username and groupname columns to display.
  11. Click Save.
  12. Log on as one of the users from the table to verify the change.
