Discovery Source
In an enterprise space, you can add a new data source without complex modeling by marking the source as a Discovery Source. This approach creates a hybrid model: some data sources are stored in the data store, and others remain external.
You can join the discovery sources with other discovery sources, dimensions, and facts.
Common uses include:
- Analyzing new or ad-hoc data. Use Excel files or other data sets with enterprise data by marking them as discovery sources. This avoids waiting for ETL or model updates.
- Removing unnecessary modeling steps. If new data does not require hierarchies or extensive metadata, skip these steps by using a discovery source. This method also streamlines security filter setup because you map directly to the discovery source, ensuring access to current data.
