Report Builder

The AI Report Builder generates a report from a natural language description. The AI selects measures, attributes, chart types, filters, sorting options, and formatting based on the prompt.

Accessing Report Builder

  1. Select Visualizer in a GenAI-enabled workspace.
  2. Locate the AI prompt field at the top of the canvas.
  3. Specify a report request.
    Chart
    for example: "Show product sales in a bar chart from 2020 to 2025 with year in the trellis."
    Data Sorting and Limit
    for example: "Show 10 rows of sales of product order by sales descending."
    Labels and Units
    for example: "Show sales in euros as Adjusted Sales for each product in 2020."
    Answer
    for example: "What is the best selling product category."

Generating a report

  1. Click the AI prompt field or click the Generate AI Report icon in the toolbar.
  2. Specify the description of a report you need to generate.
  3. Press Enter, or click the Generate Report button.
    The AI generates the BQL query, selects the most appropriate chart type, and displays the completed report on the canvas.
  4. Review the report. You can further refine it using the Visualization Editor or manually adjust settings.

What AI can do

AI can automatically perform these actions:

  • Select relevant measures and attributes from your data model.
  • Select an appropriate chart type, such as a bar chart, line chart, pie chart, or table.
  • Apply filters based on time periods, categories, or values specified in your prompt.
  • Configure sorting and Top N limits.
  • Apply trellis layouts to display data across multiple dimensions.
  • Add report labels and units where appropriate.

Creating reports manually

You can also create reports manually using the traditional report authoring experience.

Use one of these methods:

  • Drag and drop measures or attributes from the left panel onto the report canvas.
  • Open an existing report to view or modify a previously saved report.
Note: AI-generated reports can help you create visualizations more quickly, while manual report creation gives you full control over report design and configuration.
