Analytics widget configuration options

After you have data loaded, you can finish setting up the widget by configuring the widget options. You can define how the chart displays by selecting a chart type, set the chart mode, and other configuration options.

Some options have additional settings that you can apply to your widget based on your configurations.

Chart Types

You can select the chart type for your widget to configure how the data is displayed. The chart types that are compatible with your query are automatically available to select. Any chart types that do not meet the criteria for your query are disabled and cannot be selected.

Note: Some charts are incompatible for certain data sets and cannot be selected.

Chart Setup

With Chart Setup, you can configure how the measures and attributes are rendered in the widget. If you have multiple measures, you can apply different chart types for each measure within the same chart. For example, you can set one measure as a bar graph and another measure as a line graph to create a combination chart.

You can assign columns to the buckets to customize their visualizations, for example color, size, trellis, or shape bucket.

If you add a measure to the Color section, the column is available to be configured in the Conditional Formatting section.

Query

Use the Query tab to view and manage the query being used for the widget. If you change the query, you must re-validate the query before applying it to the widget.

We recommend copying your query from an existing Birst report and pasting it into the Query tab.

Chart Modes

You can select how your widget displays certain elements using the Chart Mode tab. You can select these chart modes:

Auto
Automatically selects the chart mode based on your chart's characteristics.
Standard
Displays all the elements for your chart.
Reduced
Displays a compressed axis for your chart.
Basic
Displays your chart without the X or Y axes.
Minimal
Displays a minimal chart without axes and a chart legend.

Chart Options

You can set some display options for your widget by configuring these Chart Options:

Display Values
Enable this setting to display the values in your chart.
SVG Mode
Enable this to use scalable vector graphics (SVG) for your chart.
X-axis tickmarks labels
Enable this to display tickmark labels on the X-axis.
Y-axis tickmarks labels
Enable this to display tickmark labels on the Y-axis.

Conditional Formatting

Note: Conditional Formatting has limited availability and may not be available.
You can configure and enable conditional formatting so that measures or attributes are displayed in a specific color if a certain value or threshold is met.

For example, you can set measure to display in green for values above 90%, yellow if it is between 80%-89%, and red if the values are below 80%, or you can set an attribute to display red if it matches a certain name.

Context Messages

You can add context messaging to your widget to provide additional information based on the data and its results. This supplementary messaging can clarify a time period, describe a specific data point, guide the viewer's interpretation, or emphasize important trends.

Hyperlinks

You can add a hyperlink to your widget. Preferably, use a drillback that opens an application such as a dashboard in Birst.

Note: You can only add one hyperlink to your widget.

To add a hyperlink, navigate to the Hyperlink tab, then specify a name and the URL before clicking Add Hyperlink.

Data Formatting

You can format the data that is displayed in the widget, such as the currency type, the decimal placement, or the units used.
