Enabling column level security

As a prerequisite, you must assign a user to a Space or Account Group. In addition, determine the report in which you want to hide a column from the specified Space group.

There are two procedures for setting Column Level Security. The security level is set in Space Properties, and the columns to which it applies are defined in Subject Area.
  1. Select Admin > Space Management > Subject Area.
  2. On the Subject Area page, click Add to create a Custom Subject Area (CSA). Specify a name for the CSA.
  3. To the right of the Columns field, click Add and expand Attributes and, if desired, Measures to drag and drop the desired items to the list box.

In this example, the subject area is No Sales, and the Customers dimension and OrderID measure are specified as the only columns to be displayed in the report to users.

  4. Change the Group Access for the Default Subject Area. Ensure you have at least one group selected, for example Admins, and remove All Users in Space.

  5. Add the Space/Account groups to which you want the CSA to be applied to the CSA Group Access..
Note: Remember that the groups will see only the attributes and columns you have in the CSA.

Note: The Hide only secure columns in a report option applies to Dashboards and Visualizer only, not Designer.
  9. After you finish setting up Column Level Security, you must log out and log back in for the security setting changes to go into effect.
  10. When you run the report, the secured columns are not displayed.

This is the example report with the specified columns included:

Note: The secured column, Total Sales, is not displayed.
