Creating a chart in Designer

  1. From the Designer report, click + Add entity.
  2. Charts can be created using the data from the current report or data from a different Designer report.

    To create a chart using columns from your current report, click Add Chart.

    You can add columns from the Default Subject Area when creating a chart. These columns must also be added to your Designer report in order to add the chart to the report.

    To create a chart with columns from a different report, click Add Chart from Other Report.

    When you select the Designer report, a summary of the selected report's columns displays under the Preview Report Columns section. Select the Designer report you want to create the chart from. You can only use the existing report columns when creating your chart. You cannot add any additional columns.

  3. Create a chart starting with your data first or start with the chart type first.
  4. Click the Chart Formatting icon to make formatting changes to the chart. This table shows the tabs that are available for chart formatting:
    Tab Description
    General Contains settings for chart colors, chart background, header and footer.
    X-Axis Contains formatting for axis position, scale type, title, axis line, tickmarks, gridlines, limits, and units for the X-Axis.
    Note: As of 7.6, there is a known issue where if you change the major/minor interval of x-axis, you cannot make further changes to chart formatting. You must close and reopen the chart to make changes.
    Y-Axis Contains formatting for axis position, scale type, title, axis line, tickmarks, gridlines, limits, and units for the Y-Axis.
    Chart Styles Contains formatting for chart colors, fill type, display values, and data plot settings.
    Legends Contains formatting for legend position, text style, color, legend format, and legend source
  5. When the chart is created, click Add Chart to add the chart to your report.
    Note: If you have used the Add Chart option and added columns not contained on your Designer report, a notification message is displayed. To add the chart to your Designer report, click Add Columns. Columns that are added using D-Charts are added to the Undisplayed Content band on the Designer report. To return to Designer, select Continue, without adding. Your chart is not added.
