Viewing data lineage for sources

You can view data lineage for sources in Advanced Data Modeling (ADR) spaces to visualize how the data flows across the sources in a space. Graphical data lineage for a source can be accessed in the Sources view or from the Data Flow view.

  1. Navigate to Modeler Relate.
  2. To view a source's lineage from the Sources view, you can:
    • Right-click a source directly in the view, then click View Lineage.

    • Click Actions for a source from the Source panel, then select View Lineage from the options.

    • Click a source in the view, then click View Lineage from the Sources panel.

  3. To view a source's lineage from the Data Flow view, click the View Data Flow icon. The Data Flow view is displayed.
  4. You can:
    • Right-click a source directly in the data flow, then clicking View Lineage.

    • Click Actions for a source in the Dimension and Fact Tables panel, and then click View Lineage.

After selecting a source and clicking View Lineage, the Lineage view is displayed. On the Lineage view, you can research:
    • All the dimension/fact tables.
    • All the prepared/raw sources in the space even if they are not shown and are hidden or disabled.
Note: When you are viewing large data models, the Lineage view may be zoomed in on the selected object. This allows you to view all the nodes in a space even if they do not all fit in the current view. The application automatically re-centers the node you are viewing when you zoom in or out in the window.

After selecting a source and clicking View Lineage, the Lineage view is displayed. On the Lineage view, you can research:

You can navigate to other related objects and view their lineage by clicking View Lineage for that object/source.

If you drill into an entity or object in the lineage model, the breadcrumb menu path is built at the top of the page.

Note: To view processed data for a dimension or measure data, you can navigate to Admin > Space Management > View Processed Data to examine the data.
