Using a Saved Expression in an Original Dashboard Prompt

You can use a saved expression in a prompt in an Original Dashboard. First create a report in Classic Designer containing the saved expression. After adding the report containing the saved expression to a dashlet in Dashboard Edit mode, you can add the saved expression as a prompt.

A dashboard user will be able to filter the report in the dashlet using the prompt containing the saved expression.

The report must contain the saved expression in order to use the saved expression as a prompt. The report does not need to contain a prompted filter for the saved expression.

To create a dashboard prompt with a saved expression

1. In Classic Designer, create the saved expression you want to use for your dashboard prompt if it does not already exist. The following is an example of an expression that concatenates the Rep Name with the RepID.

2. Open a report or create a new report in Designer. Add the saved expression to the report.

3. If you look at the column properties for the saved expression column (by clicking the column header and selecting Column Properties), you will see the saved expression in the Expression field.

4. Save the report.
5. Switch to Dashboards.
6. Create a new dashboard by clicking the tab or edit the dashboard page you'd like to add the report to by right-clicking the dashboard page name and selecting Edit.
7. Drag the report containing the saved expression to a dashlet.
8. In the Add Prompts Area, drag the saved expression to the prompt landing area to add it as a prompt to the dashboard.
9. Click Save to save the dashboard.
10. In the regular dashboard view, in the prompts section at the top of the dashboard you will see the prompt containing the saved expression and you will be able to filter the report using the prompt.
