Connect to Cloud Applications Using Application Connectors
Birst Application Connectors connect to enterprise cloud applications and extract data for use in business models, reports, and dashboards.
Implementation and Usage Notes
- Application Connectors access cloud-based applications, not on-premise applications. Birst must be able to connect to the application using a URL.
- Data extraction can occur on a one-off, manual basis or be scheduled for ongoing extraction over time.
- Birst can connect to multiple instances of the same application. Instead of one connection per Application Connector, there can be multiple connections. See Upgrading Spaces to Support Multiple Instances of Connectors.
- To upload data into Birst using an application connector, the respective connector data source must contain at least two columns with data. If a source has only one column, Birst will not load it.
- Make sure to use unique extraction object names when using multiple connections.
- Recreate the schedule for a newer Birst version instead of copying it when the Birst space is configured to use a connection for cloud connectors.
- When referencing DATE or DATETIME variables in queries for some application connectors, the entire call must be surrounded with single quotes. For example: 'V{LAST_UPDATE_DATE}'. When applicable, this is noted in the documentation for the connector.
Birst Connections
For any supported Application Connector, you can configure one or more connections.
For each connection you can:
- Specify what data source objects to extract from the application. See the topics for the particular Application Connector for details.
- Manually extract the objects into Birst. See the topics for the particular Application Connector for details.
- Optionally, organize objects into extraction groups for scheduled, automated extraction.
- Optionally, set up schedules for extraction.
- Optionally, set up automatic processing after scheduled extractions.
