Copying a Space
You can copy the information from an existing Source Space to an existing Target Space. A space can be copied to use for testing, differentiated sharing, or other purposes. For example, your co-worker shares their space with you, you can copy it and modify its reports and dashboards.
The copy includes:
All processed data
Reports (private and shared)
Dashboards
Users, groups, group permissions and memberships, data processing schedules, report schedules, and color palettes for attributes are not copied.
Birst does not copy the Always On property for a space to the target space. Any Always On Connection from the source space is removed when copied to a new space. See Enabling an Always On Space.
Tips:
-
The default space size limit for copying spaces is 100 GB; any space over the size limit can't be copied. Contact your Birst representative to change your space size limit.
- You can use the copyspace command in the Admin - Manage Space - Command Window or the copySpace web service to copy a space and specify the items to copy, including items that cannot be copied from the Home page button. To copy Data Driven Dashboard conditions, you will need to include the "dashboardstyles" copySpace option. See the copyspace topic under the administrative command help topic for more details.
- For Appliance users, see the Appliance instructions at Copy Reports, Dashboards, and other Metadata between Birst Appliances.
Prerequisites
Before you can copy a space:
You must have access to the space, either:
It is your space and you are the Space Administrator.
It is a space that is shared with you. See Sharing a Space.
You are not restricted from creating a new space. By default all users can create their own spaces. See Restricting Users from Creating New Spaces.
To copy a space
- From Orchestration, click the + icon to create a new workflow.
- Click Add a Task.
- Select "Copy Space" from the Select a task type list field.
- Specify or select the Source Space to copy.
- Specify or select a Target Space.
- Select a Mode of "Copy".
- Specify other related options in the Options field. Note: The user interface does not allow for illegal characters, such as double quotes, in the Options field. Double quotes can be used in the command line prompt to copy a space but results in an error message in the user interface.
-
Click Done.
Note: If you have an Appliance and the flags AllowOverrideSpaceSchema and IsApplianceMode in web.config are set to true (<add key="AllowOverrideSpaceSchema" value="true"/> <add key="IsApplianceMode" value="true"/> ), you will see a Schema field which enables you to specify the schema name to use for the space. Note: The schema name needs to conform to the syntax that is supported for the database (for example, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, ParAccel). - If you click Add a Task, you can create another task to carry out in the step. All tasks in a workflow step are executed in parallel, so this means that you cannot execute the same type of task more than once in a single step.
- To add a new step in the workflow, click Add a new step.
