Monitoring Background Jobs

Birst provides a list of background tasks and their status over time. A Space Administrator may need to see a history of Birst jobs, or check on whether a job has failed.

Important: Ad-hoc report renderings, other than Description mode, are not monitored in this tab.

Jobs include:

Reports: HTML5 Original Dashboards "jumbo reports" set up for on-demand report rendering using Description mode. This monitors how long it takes and whether an HTML5 Description mode report rendered to the screen successfully. If the report is not marked for Description mode, it is not monitored in this tab. See Using On-Demand Report Rendering for Jumbo Reports.

Export Reports: Exporting HTML5 Original Dashboards Description mode reports to another format.

Scheduled Reports: Reports set up to be distributed on a regular schedule via email using Original Dashboards, Dashboards 2.0, Designer, or Admin. See Scheduling a Report from Dashboards, Sharing Reports from Dashboards 2.0, Scheduling a Report from Designer, and  Scheduling Reports in Admin.

To monitor background jobs

1. Go to Admin - Manage Access - Background Job.

The tab lists jobs by ID, name, type, user, and start and end  times. The State column shows whether the job is running, is queued, has completed successfully, or has failed.

The states are:
RUNNING: the report is requested and the data is being retrieved.
QUEUED: the the results have been retrieved and the report is in the queue to be returned.
SUCCEEDED: the report ran and returned.
FAILED: the report did not return.

2. To change the number of jobs returned, update the Records per page field.
3. To see results over a specific time period, change the Begin and End dates and click Refresh.
