Adding Drilling Capability to a Classic Designer Column

You can add drilling capability to any column in a report. Drilling enables the person viewing the report to click on a data value in the column to view a greater level of detail or to navigate to another dashboard with related information. See Drilling.

To add drilling capability to a column

1. In Classic Designer, open the report.
2. Click on a column header and select Column Properties from the menu. The Column Properties dialog box opens.
3. Click the Drilling tab at the top.
4. For Drill Type, select Drill Down or Drill to Dashboard. Drill Down means that by clicking on the column, the user can get more detailed information; for example, clicking on a year could display the quarters in the year. Drill to Dashboard means by clicking on a column a dashboard page will open displaying additional information.
5. If you select Drill Down, the name of the column will be displayed in the Drill Down Column box.

If you select Drill to Dashboard, select the dashboard page to drill to from the Navigate to Dashboard dropdown list. The dashboard must be previously created and saved. (It can be empty.) If your target dashboard is not already set up, you can select another one here, but be sure to come back to this dialog box and change it to the correct dashboard once it has been created.
6. To set up optional drill targets (for a Drill Type of Drill Down) to give users other options to follow for drilling, click the Change button next to Drill Down Column and select the columns you want users to be able to choose from. The user will be able to right-click on a field in the dashboard to see the other drill options.
7. If you selected Drill to Dashboard, the name of the column you are drilling on is displayed in the Prompt Param Name field.
8. If you want to pass additional column values as parameters to the target report or dashboard, drag and drop the columns from the Available Columns area to the Selected Columns area.
9. To add additional parameters, you can type the parameter and the value at the bottom.
10. Click the Remove Column on Drill box if you do not want the column to be displayed after it has been clicked on.
11. Click Save in the Column Properties dialog box.
12. The values in the column you enabled drilling on will now be displayed as blue underlined links to indicate they are drill-down columns.
13. Click Report, Save to save the report.
