Text Messages

Some OEMs send an ASC X12 864 text message along with the release order transactions. The text message informs the supplier about the purpose of the release orders: Plan changes, organizational changes, new revision levels of an item, and other conditions that influence the common business process.

The incoming text message is linked to the corresponding release orders by the External Document Number. The external document number is displayed in the Release Information field set of the plan applications in Release Management.

The free form text of each incoming text message is added to the plan notes respectively replaces the existing plan notes. For each text message, a new version of the corresponding combined plan is created and published to the ERP system. If the plans are updated successfully, the status of the text messages is set to Processed. The status description contains the list of plan IDs of plans that have been updated. The text messages can then be printed on warehousing documents in the ERP system.

On the Text Messages page, you can check and review the list of text messages that have been imported to Release Management for existing release orders. The displayed list of text messages is sorted by document date in descending order and by document ID in ascending order.

On this page, you can perform these tasks:

  • Search for text messages from a trading partner. For example: To search for text messages for specific plans, specify the external document number from the plan applications in the search field of the Document ID column.
  • Check the content of a text message. Click the Drill down button of a text message. On the Text Message Details page, review the Text Message and the Status Description fields.
  • Validate a text message. A text message with status Failed or Processed can be validated. Select a text message and click Validate. The status then changes to New and the message is processed again.
