Sending functional acknowledgment

A functional acknowledgment is required, if the sender of a message expects a confirmation that the business partner successfully received the message. A new confirmation message is created based on the incoming message, from the perspective of the receiver.

Many trading partners, especially in North America, require a functional acknowledgment from the receiver of an EDI message. An OEM might require the supplier to send back an ASC X12 997 Functional Acknowledgment message to acknowledge an ASC X12 830 Planning Schedule with Release Capability message. Similar business processes may be based on UN/EDIFACT CONTRL messages. The actual use of a functional acknowledgment depends on the specific needs of a trading partner.

A generic solution is available in the Transformation area that enables a functional acknowledgment for all messages of the message standards ASC X12 and UN-EDIFACT.
